Lipoid pneumonia, exogenous

(Fr: PnP lipidique exogene). Subacute, chronic or, less often, acute causing ARF (PMID 27372295). Consists in the spread and aspiration of mineral oil or fluid hydrocarbons in the lower respiratory tract. Stainable lipids can be evidenced in sputum, BAL macrophage, BAL flluid and lung tissue. Hiatal hernia and achalasia may be risk factors for ELP (PMID 13834170).
